André Vallini, the French Minister of State for Development and Francophonie, represented France at the Fifth Replenishment Conference of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, which took place in Montreal on September 16–17, 2016.
The Minister of State announced that France is renewing its support for the Global Fund’s initiatives, which have produced remarkable results in the fight against these three pandemics. André Vallini will reiterate the commitment expressed by the President of the Republic on June 26th regarding France’s decision to contribute €1.08 billion for the 2017–2019 period, which represents an annual value of €360 million.
He also announced an increase to the amount dedicated to the 5% Initiative, which aims to provide technical assistance to Francophone Global Fund beneficiary countries in order to help them design, implement, monitor, and evaluate grants. This program also contributes to the development of the health systems of these countries.
France—a founding member of the Global Fund, second-largest contributor in the world, and leading European contributor—reaffirms its historical commitment to this cause in order to put an end to these three pandemics for good.
