Exercise « Maple Flag » in Cold Lake

Four Mirage F1 CR from 1/33 Fighter Squadron « Belfort » and 2/33 « Savoie » based in Reims, took part to exercise "Maple Flag" from 22 May to 15 June 2007.

"Maple Flag" is an international air combat exercise that is annually held in Cold Lake Alberta, home of 4th Wing. This fortieth « Maple Flag » lasted 4 weeks and was divided in two periods. Pilots from 1/33 were committed from 22 May to 1 June and those from 2/33 from 4 to 15 June.
"Maple Flag" gives Canadian and Allied airmen an opportunity to train in a modern and realistic air combat environment. It mainly deals with air operations conducted by a large Air force lay out in a coalition.
More than 3000 servicemen from 11 countries participated to exercise "Maple Flag"; among them, United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Belgium, New Zealand, Netherlands, and France.

The Ambassador of France in Canada visited 4th Wing at Cold Lake 11 and 12 June. He met the French detachment and appreciated the excellence of exercise “maple Flag”.

The French Air Force also entertains frequent relationship with Canadian Air Force in training matters. A delegation from Cognac training Air base visited Moose Jaw from 25 to 30 November to exchange with 15th Wing on combat pilot training issues.
