FCRF regular program: selection and conditions

Who is eligible for FCRF funding

The joint project has to be done beween a french research institution and one of the following universities:

Criteria for assessment :

  • Quality/ Scientific Interest
  • Quality of the teams
  • Methodology/ Feasibility
  • Interest of the Canadian- French collaboration (complementarity of the teams)
  • Young researchers involved (Ph.D, post-doc…)
  • Novelty of the project

Only new projects are eligible .

Applications for renewals or extensions cannot be accepted.


Selection process

  • A call for proposals is launched each year.
  • Joint projects are then submitted by the two partner research teams to the FCRF representative at the member university in Canada and to the Office for Science and Technology (OST) of the French Embassy.
  • The FCRF representative will then forward a maximum of 5 pre-selected projects to the OST.
  • Pre-selected applicants are then asked to provide additional information to the OST who forwards this information to Canadian and French scientific experts for evaluation.
  • Final evaluation and selection of projects are carried out by the Executive Committee.

Executive Committee

In addition to making the final selection of the project, the Executive Committee sets out the direction and priorities of the Fund.
On the French side, the Executive Committee consists of two representatives from the French Foreign Affairs Ministry and two representatives from the French Ministry for Higher Education and Research.
On the Canadian side, it consists of four representatives from partner universities and one representative from the company Total Canada.
