A new television channel was launched on December 6th. FRANCE 24 is the first French channel reporting international news 24 hours a day, 7 days per week. It will first be broadcast in Europe, Africa and the Middle East, and then it will extend its broadcast to reach international proportions.
FRANCE 24 uses a strong and ambitious multilingual strategy. It is broadcasting its programs both in French and English, then in Arab as of 2007, and finally in Spanish. Free and non-crypted, the channel will be available on all numerical platforms (satellite, cable, Internet).
Its newsroom, apart from its team of 170 polyglot journalists, includes a number of information and image sources, notably from the foreign branches of France Télévisions, the bureaux of AFP, RFO, AITV, Associated Press and Reuters.
Thanks to its dynamism, its international scope, the richness of its content, and the integration of different media platforms at the heart of the editorial office, France 24 should quickly become a principal actor in international news.
FRANCE 24 will be complementary to TV5 Monde : while the latter is a general interest channel, France 24 will only offer news, it will have its own images, and an editorial stance that is resolutely international. For further information :
