France honours Madeleine Meilleur [fr]

On Friday, March 30, 2012, the Ambassador of France to Canada, Philippe Zeller, appointed Madeleine Meilleur to the rank of Chevalier of the Ordre national de la Légion d’Honneur at the Residence of France in Ottawa.

The Légion d’Honneur is France’s highest decoration, the first of the national orders established by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802.

Madeleine Meilleur, who is the Ontario MPP for Ottawa-Vanier and the Ontario Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services, has served as Minister Responsible for Francophone Affairs since 2003 where she has ceaselessly worked to promote French in Ontario, the province with the second-largest Francophone community in Canada with over a half-million Franco-Ontarians.

Madeleine Meilleur’s appointment to the rank of Chevalier in the Legion of Honour reflects France’s gratitude for her work in promoting the development of the French language and the multilateral Francophonie.
