The biomedical basis of human performance France-Canada workshop [fr]
June 4 - June 7, 2013
University of Calgary
The French Embassy in Canada and the University of Calgary will be partnering to hold a workshop from 4-7 June 2013 on The Biomedical Basis of Human Performance across the Lifespan. This workshop will take place on the University of Calgary campus, and will be hosted by the Faculty of Kinesiology.
This workshop provides an opportunity to enhance linkages between French scientists and researchers, educators and trainees at the University of Calgary. The French Embassy has invited the Faculty of Kinesiology to host this event, which will bring together colleagues from the Faculty of Kinesiology, other faculties (i.e., Engineering, Medicine, Science), Graduate Programs (Kinesiology, Medicine and Biomedical Engineering), and strategic research areas (Brain and Mental Health’s subthemes of Concussion/Brain Injury and Healthy Brain Aging) across campus. This provides a fantastic opportunity to foster interdisciplinarity among scientists and educators in the fields of Health, Wellness and Human Performance. It also provides a great opportunity to enhance key collaborations that are already established with French scientists, which will help increase capacity of international cooperation and collaboration.
This workshop will provide an opportunity to share scientific presentations from French researchers and from faculty members at the University of Calgary in their mutual fields of interest. An open panel discussion will also be included. In addition to providing an opportunity for scientists to present scientific findings and to explore areas for collaboration, one of the goals is also to provide our graduate students and postdoctoral fellows an opportunity to attend and actively contribute to the workshop. Finally, the third day of the visit will be dedicated to specific laboratory visits and meetings with a broader informative focus on specific tools/collaborative opportunities (collaborative research and funding opportunities, graduate education) available through the French Embassy. A major focus and goal of this third day will be to explore areas of scientific and educational synergies and to discuss existing and new opportunities for student exchanges and joint research programs.
