By decision of the President of the Republic of France, the Right Honourable Brian Mulroney, former Prime Minister of Canada, has been nominated to the rank of Commander of the National Order of the Legion of Honour.

He will therefore be the first head of the Canadian government to receive this prestigious distinction, which recognizes his unfailing dedication to the development of France-Canada relations and to the influence of the international Francophonie.

The Legion of Honour is the highest decoration that France can bestow. Created by First Consul Napoléon Bonaparte in 1802, it recognizes eminent merit in the service of France.
