World Cup of Rugby: France vs. Canada [fr]

In a land dominated by hockey, where Canadians have excelled internationally for years, rugby remains a minor sport.

But it’s Canada (ranked 14th) who caused the first big upset during the Rugby World Cup 2011, after handing Tonga (12th) a 25-20 defeat in their first match.

The Canadians will have to win two of their next three matches, facing France on Sunday in Napier, Japan on September 27 or New Zealand on October 2.

There’s no doubt the French team will have to keep an eye on its next adversary. The Canucks’ surprise win on Wednesday may force Les Bleus to alter their plans.

The Canadians’ impressive and quick-tempered lock, Jamie Cudmore (measuring in at 1.95 m and 118 kg) has played for Clermont Auvergne since 2005 will play a key role in the match against France.

Promoted to captain, the former Grenoble player has wasted no time distinguishing himself during this World Cup 2011. He showed even more prowess than usual against Tonga and was one of the major architects of his team’s victory over the Pacific Islanders, ending with an impressive 24 successful tackles to his name.
